Step by Step

On this tour you will have the opportunity, for about 8 hours, to hop on a comfortable bus and visit Avila and Segovia. Both cities are known for their vast and well-preserved cultural heritage, including the best-preserved medieval walls in Europe and the favourite castle of the Catholic Monarchs.

Accompanied by an expert guide, you will learn about the history of these two cities, from which you will learn a multitude of anecdotes and interesting facts. In Segovia you will visit its famous Roman aqueduct, one of the oldest and best preserved in the world.

The aqueduct was built at the beginning of the 2nd century and was active until 1973. The most remarkable thing about this colossal work of architecture is that the stones of the ashlars are fitted together, with no mortar or any other type of fastening.

You will also have the opportunity to enjoy a traditional Segovian lunch, which includes Castilian soup and pork. This tour has a lunch option that will allow you to savour a delicious meal in one of the most renowned restaurants in the city.

If this option is not included, you can enjoy an hour and a half of free time for lunch before continuing with the city tour. Next to the cathedral, you will also find the Jewish quarter of Segovia, the old quarter where the Jews lived in former times.

The tour includes a visit inside the Alcázar of Segovia, the favourite castle of the Catholic Monarchs. You will learn about the history of this famous fortress, considered impregnable in the past. In addition to being a fortress and residence, the building also housed the Royal Artillery College of the Spanish army during the 19th century.

The interior tour of the castle has an audio guide that explains in detail the history and details of the rooms, as well as the room containing the small statues of all the kings of the Crown of Castile, from Don Pelayo to Felipe II. The Alcázar is also said to have been a source of inspiration for the castles in Walt Disney films.

You will also visit Ávila, known for its famous medieval city walls. These walls, considered to be the best preserved in Europe, have more than 80 towers, as well as 9 gates that allowed the entrance and exit of the city.

On the outskirts of Ávila is the Mirador de los Cuatro Postes, the main vantage point from which you can enjoy the beautiful views of the city walls and the historic centre of the city. Once inside the city, you will be able to see the Plaza del Mercado Chico, the main square of Ávila.

You will also see the Cathedral of Avila, an imposing building dating back to the 13th century. It is more than 700 years old and contains a mixture of Romanesque and Gothic styles, which led to it being declared a site of cultural interest in 1914.

Another of Ávila's architectural relics is the Basilica of San Vicente, which, at around a thousand years old, is one of the finest examples of Romanesque architecture in Spain.

Once the activity is over, you will return to Madrid by bus, on a round trip.
