Step by Step

This private tour starts in Aswan and goes to the Abu Simbel Temples, one of the most important archaeological sites in Egypt. A personal driver will pick you up from your hotel in Aswan and take you to this destination, located about 300 km to the south. Please note that if you are staying in the area of Gharb Soheil village, you will have to pay a supplement. The tour lasts approximately 8 hours.

The places of worship are divided into two parts, one temple dedicated to Ramesses II and the other to his wife Nefertiti, and were built some 3000 years ago to celebrate the victory at the Battle of Kadesh against the Hittite army. It is recognisable by the huge statues at the entrance. It is worth remembering that the tour does not include an entrance fee, but you can buy one on site.

Inside, the walls are decorated with thousands of hieroglyphs, statues and representations dedicated to Ramses II and his exploits during his lifetime. Forgotten for centuries under the desert sands, the temples of Abu Simbel were only discovered in 1813 by the Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt.

The Unesco World Heritage Site was dismantled and rebuilt on its present site in the 1960s. The reason was the construction of a huge dam a few kilometres from Aswan, a vital work to regulate the flooding of the Nile.
