Step by Step

Immerse yourself in Pittsburgh's whiskey history with a unique guided tour, which will take you through downtown's iconic architecture as you discover the Whiskey Rebellion of 1794, hidden speakeasies and the effects of Prohibition on the city.

The tour begins at 1049 Penn Ave, next to the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. Lawrence Convention Center, where you'll meet your local guide. From here, you'll walk through Mellon Square and Grant Street, two landmarks that showcase the city's architectural development while learning about the importance of whiskey in Pittsburgh's economy.

Your first stop will be at Ritual House, an exclusive restaurant where you'll enjoy a Prohibition Cocktail, inspired by the drinks served during Prohibition. You will then continue to the Omni William Penn Hotel, a historic building that witnessed the city's transformation over the centuries.

The tour continues along Cherry Way, a hidden alleyway where illegal activities took place during Prohibition, before heading to Fourth Avenue, Pittsburgh's old "Wall Street". Here, you'll learn about the legacy of Henry Clay Frick, one of the most influential businessmen of the era, and his connection to the whiskey industry.

You'll finish the experience at The Rebel Room, a bar located in the Industrialist Hotel, where you'll enjoy a handcrafted Old Fashioned, while your guide closes the tour with fascinating stories about Pittsburgh's underground whiskey culture.
