Step by Step

On this tour you will have the opportunity to travel to Cuenca from the centre of Madrid and discover one of the most beautiful cities in Spain. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996, the city is known for its historic centre, its suburbs and the two rivers that surround it .

The tour will last around 11 hours and you will be accompanied by an expert guide. You will learn about the history, culture and architecture of this inland Spanish city. Some of the places you will visit are as follows:

  • Finca La Estacada Restaurant: An emblematic and beautiful winery located in Tarancón, the second most populated municipality in Cuenca. Here you can stop for a rest and a drink while you enjoy the beautiful views of the surrounding vineyards.
  • Ventano del Diablo: A viewpoint set in an impressive gorge formed by the course of the river Júcar, in the vicinity of the municipality of Villalba de la Sierra in the province of Cuenca. It is a kind of cave carved out of the rock from which, with hundreds of metres of unevenness, you can contemplate the river Júcar in all its splendour.
  • The Enchanted City: In the heart of the Serranía de Cuenca Nature Reserve and surrounded by immense pine forests, the Enchanted City is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular spots in Spain. Here you can admire the whimsical geological formations that have been formed over 90 million years.

Originally, the Enchanted City was part of the bottom of the Thetis Sea. Once the sea receded, the seabed, composed of limestone, rose to the surface. The action of the climate over millions of years gave rise to today's geological phenomenon, which certainly leaves no one indifferent.

Due to its geological importance, the Enchanted City was declared a Natural Site of National Interest on 11 June 1929.

  • City of Cuenca: Around midday, you will arrive in the capital of Cuenca, where you will have the opportunity to have lunch and stroll around the old town on your own.
  • Mirador Barrio del Castillo: You will start the guided walking tour through the old town of Cuenca. You will cross the Arco de Bezudo, the gateway to the medieval quarter of the city. There, you will have the opportunity to visit the Cathedral and continue the tour until you reach the Hanging Houses, one of the main tourist attractions of Cuenca.
  • Hanging Houses: They are so called because they have large balconies overhanging the high rocky ledge of the gorge of the Huécar River. They were built between the 13th and 15th centuries and now house the Museum of Spanish Abstract Art. The Hanging Houses, together with the Cathedral and the walled city, were declared a World Heritage Site in 1996.

Once you have seen the Hanging Houses, you will reach the Convent of San Pablo, crossing the bridge of the same name. From the convent, you can enjoy some of the best views of picturesque Cuenca .

  • Plaza Mayor of Cuenca: Here, you will have the opportunity to participate in the tasting of some of the typical products of the city of Cuenca.

Once the activity is over, you will return to Madrid, to the original starting point, as it is a round trip.
