Step by Step

This walking tour allows you to discover the Barcelona of Pablo Picasso. Not only will you have the opportunity to stroll through the historic centre admiring the places he frequented, but you will also be able to enter the museum dedicated to him. The activity lasts around 2 hours, includes an expert guide and you will be able to visit the following attractions:

  • Els Quatre Gats - When the Malagueño lived in Barcelona, he spent much of his time in this tavern. Inspired by Parisian cafés, it soon became a meeting point for the artists of the time. The first Picasso exhibition was held within its walls.
  • Llotja Mar - An apparently simple building, linked to the maritime trades. It was also the headquarters of the Stock Exchange, but when Picasso lived in Barcelona, it was here that Fine Arts were studied.
  • Col-legi d'Arquitectes - Few people know that in Barcelona, Picasso's only open-air work is a stone's throw from the Cathedral. It is a mural that, in the classic Andalusian style, pays homage to Catalan tradition with a representation of the "Gegants" (large figures that mainly represent kings or religious figures) and the traditional dance of the Sardana (Sardana).

You will also visit the Born, a neighbourhood in the old quarter with a marked medieval imprint. Here you will find the Picasso Museum, housed in a splendid Gothic building: Palau Aguilar. Its origins date back to the 1960s, at the behest of the Malaga painter himself, who wanted to leave his mark on the city that welcomed him as a young man.

It houses more than 4,000 works, and some of them stand out for their value. Among them, we can mention "Hombre con Boina" ( painted when he was only 14 years old), "Arlequín" ( a recurring theme, especially during the pink period) or "Las Meninas", a reinterpretation of Diego Velázquez's masterpiece.

The experience was enriching, but I think it would benefit from more interaction during the tour.
