10 Things to Do in Barcelona in Spring
Spring is one of the best seasons to visit the city of Barcelona. Discover everything this city has to offer at this time of year.
Spring is many people's favourite time of the year. And it's no wonder, with warmer temperatures and a wider range of outdoor activities on offer.
There are many options for what to see and do in Barcelona. But in spring, Barcelona hosts a wide variety of events to welcome this beautiful time of year. Here's the best guide for your holiday in the city.
1. Enjoy Easter celebrations in the city
Religious dates are very important in Barcelona, and in Spain in general. No matter what religion you are, getting to know these celebrations is essential to get to know the culture of the city, and the best thing is that everyone is invited to celebrate and have fun.
The traditions of Holy Week are many, but the most important are the processions. On Palm Sunday, the faithful take palm leaves and gather in the procession of La Burreta, which goes through the centre of Barcelona simulating the entrance of Jesus into the city of Jerusalem. This procession starts in the morning, in the parish church of Sant Agustí, and is a typical Barcelona event during your spring visit.
Another procession I recommend you take part in is Good Friday, which takes place between Barcelona's Gothic Quarter and the Ramblas, in the heart of the city's tourist centre.
Finally, don't forget to treat yourself to an Easter cake to complete your Easter celebration in true Barcelona style.

Girona Temps de Flors is a festival where flower displays are exhibited in different monuments, historic buildings, courtyards and gardens throughout the city of Girona. Thousands of tourists visit the city every year to take part in this event, which fills the streets with colour and perfume in the middle of spring.
This festival takes place in early May and is well worth a visit to see what it's all about. It is completely free and in the open air, which makes it even more attractive.
Girona is a city in the province of Catalonia, just 100 kilometres from the city of Barcelona. During the celebration of Sant Jordi, the streets are very crowded and the atmosphere is very lively. The tradition is to give a rose and a book to someone you love, so you will find book and rose stalls on every street corner. You will see many people carrying their flowers all over the city while taking a stroll on Sant Jordi's Day.

The Virgin of Montserrat is also well known as she has the particularity of being dark-skinned, and thousands of the faithful come every year to ask her for her intentions and to visit her great sanctuary.

6. Don't miss the night of Sant Joan
The night of Sant Joan is celebrated in style in Barcelona and the city is filled with street parties, bonfires and fireworks.
The night of 23rd to 24th June is the shortest night of the year, and the Catalans say goodbye to spring to welcome the summer with good energy and a great ritual.
La Flama del Canigó is the most deeply-rooted tradition in the city. If you go to Plaça Sant Jaume, you will see a large bonfire lit. From there, the fire will be taken to light all the other bonfires distributed throughout the city of Barcelona. It would be like the "mother bonfire" from which all the other bonfires are lit.
Many popular dinners are held in the different neighbourhoods and the city is filled with music in every corner.
The night is crowned with fireworks on the different beaches at midnight, which will be as crowded as you've probably never seen before.
Be sure to try the delicious "cocas de Sant Joan", a typical sweet of this celebration, which is always accompanied by a good glass of cava. Cheers!

The customs and folklore of a place have very diverse origins. And totally curious ones too.
This tradition takes place in Barcelona, and attracts both locals and tourists who want to see what it's all about for themselves.
L'ou Com Balla or, in Spanish, "How the egg dances", consists precisely in making an egg "dance" strategically placed in the fountains of the fountains in the different courtyards or gardens of the city. The fountains are specially decorated for this great occasion.
Unfortunately, I'll let you in on the secret: to stop the egg from falling, you simply put the whole shell of an empty egg inside.
If you are travelling in Barcelona in spring and feel like being part of this celebration, you can attend the Barcelona Cathedral, the Frederic Marès Museum, the Maritime Museumand the Reial Monestir de Santa Maria de Pedralbes.
