Turin Egyptian Museum Guided Private Tour

The museum dedicated to the civilisation born on the banks of the Nile is the second most important in the world after Cairo. Its collection is arranged chronologically - from4900 BC to 750 AD- and contains priceless pieces. The Egyptian Museum was founded in 1824 and, after more than a century of activity, it has more than 3,000 exhibits on display. Among the most famous are the following:

• Tomb of Kha and Merit: this is not the final resting place of a pharaoh, but of an architect and his wife. It was discovered in 1905 by Egyptologist Ernesto Schiaparelli in the Theban necropolis.
• Statue of Uahka: depicts a provincial official, but in an almost royal pose. In the past, Egyptian dignitaries had great power, but this diminished over the years.
• Gebelein cloth: the oldest painted linen cloth ever found. Few fragments remain but a boat can be seen sailing on a river.
• Iuefankh Book of the Dead: a long and complex papyrus containing all the information the deceased need to know in order to face the afterlife.
• Temple of Ellesya: a place of worship built during the reign of Thutmose III (around 1454 BC). It was located a short distance from the Nile River, at an important commercial crossroads.

The museum is located in via Accademia delle Scienze 6, a few minutes walk from piazza San Carlo and Palazzo Carignano. If you are not staying nearby, the nearest stations are Porta Nuova (train and metro) or Re Umberto (metro).
