Step by Step
By choosing this activity, you will discover the gastronomy of Syracuse in just under 3 hours, enough time to visit the home of a local and enjoy a delicious 4-course menu. The gastronomic experience is designed for small groups and can take place at any time of the year.
As usual, the meal is inaugurated with pizzolo, a term that identifies the local stuffed pizza. Alternatively, it is also possible to taste a local speciality: red orange and red onion salad. The rest of the menu usually includes the following specialities:
- Pasta alla Siracusana - Uses seafood ingredients (squid, prawns, clams, etc.) cooked with fresh tomatoes, capers, garlic and aromatic herbs.
- Pasta alla Carrettiera - A typical recipe from eastern Sicily, eaten by carters during their few minutes of rest. It has few ingredients - garlic, oil, chilli and toasted breadcrumbs - but is very tasty.
- Puppetti ri muccu - Tasty blue fish fritters. They are prepared with eggs, pecorino cheese, garlic, parsley, oil, salt and pepper.
- Cannolo - The cream of Sicilian pastries. A crisp sheet of puff pastry encloses a heart of sweet ricotta cheese, often made even more delicious with pistachio pieces or chocolate shavings.
- Cassata - A traditional Sicilian dessert, known as much for its decorative beauty as for its delicate flavour. It is made with sponge cake, sweet ricotta, candied fruit, marzipan and pistachios.
