Step by Step

Enjoy the most rural environment of Rome thanks to this guided tour of about 27 km by electric bike. Learn all about the ruins along the Appian Way. This road was one of the most important roads in ancient Rome and is located on the outskirts of the city, in the southern region. Therefore, by moving away from the centre, you will enjoy a more natural environment.

This road includes a large number of ruins as it was first used over 2000 years ago. So at the end of this tour you will know much more about the beginnings of the Roman Empire thanks to its ruins from the 1st, 2nd and 3rd centuries.

Specifically, you can choose between two different tours, although both follow the same route and include a tour guide. The shorter option lasts approximately 4 hours. With the longer tour option, lasting around 6 hours, you will also visit the interior of the Catacombs of St. Callixtus. Inside these great catacombs from the 2nd century half a million people are at rest.

On the other hand, the entire route is notable for the large number of ruins and aqueducts. Some of the most important remains you will be able to see are:

  • Park of the Aqueducts: a large park crossed by the arches of several aqueducts.
  • Porta San Sebastiano: a gate of the defensive wall of Rome from the 3rd century.
  • Circus of Maxentius: monumental ruins of an Imperial Villa and its circus, from the 4th century.
