Step by Step

Curious visitors will love this tour through the underground of Naples. The experience will allow you to explore the depths of one of the oldest cities in the world, more than 4,000 years old. Down there you will find everything from narrow passages and tunnels, to the remains of the ancient Greco-Roman theatre or the catacombs of San Gennaro.

The tour lasts approximately one and a half hours and you will be constantly accompanied by an expert guide. Thanks to his explanations (in English or Italian), you will learn about the anecdotes and legends of the underground, as well as the passage of Emperor Augustus and the shelters of the Second World War.

Naples is a city in southern Italy whose cultural, historical and artistic richness is remarkable. Besides being known as the "Pizza Capital of the World" and for its music, artistic movements such as the Neapolitan Renaissance and Baroque have developed here.

This city has been occupied by Greeks, Romans, Goths, Byzantines, as well as Spaniards. Its underground world bears witness to the great number of peoples and civilisations that settled here. Along the route you will see places such as the ancient pantry of the Monastery of Santa Chiara or the ancient Greco-Roman theatre.

The Bourbon Tunnel is also one of the most striking sites. It consists of approximately 530 giant passages, caves and narrow sewers characterised by the blue tiles that still retain their colour. It is now known as the Bourbon Gallery. Underground Naples came back into fashion in World War II, as the cisterns and tunnels were used as safe, anti-aircraft shelters and caves.

Naples has a lot to see in the city and underneath it. I really enjoyed this tour. I saw the ancient theatre of Naples, the super ancient aqueduct, the Summa Cavea. The guide also taught us a lot. Who knows what else lies beneath the city that is not yet known!
