Step by Step

Admire one of the oldest collections in Europe with these tickets to the National Archaeological Museum of Naples. In the centre of the Italian city, you will have the opportunity to discover the permanent and temporary exhibitions in this space, considered one of the oldest and most important cultural institutions in the world.

The palace that now houses the National Archaeological Museum was first a cavalry barracks and then the Palazzo dei Regi Studi, the seat of the University during the Bourbon era. From the end of the 18th century it became one of the first and most important archaeological museums in Europe, thanks to the figure of Charles III of Bourbon.

Visiting this museum means touching one of the main nuclei of the history of Italian and Western culture. You will see masterpieces from the Farnese Collection, as well as the finds from Herculaneum and Pompeii, which include splendid frescoes and mosaics, statues and precious objects.

One of the most visited sections is the Secret Cabinet collection, which is distinguished by the display of some 250 pieces with erotic themes, mainly from the excavations of Pompeii and Herculaneum.

Over time, due to the embarrassment caused by the display of "obscene" and "pornographic" objects, the collection was censored several times and physically separated from the rest of the collection.

Another of the sections that attracts the most tourists is the Egyptian section. It is the second most important in Italy after the Egyptian Museum in Turin, and was set up between 1817 and 1821 thanks to the acquisition of famous private collections.

Finally, you will have the opportunity with these passes to send a Pemcards postcard. This allows you to turn any photo into a postcard and send it via your mobile phone to anyone in any corner of the world.

It was a very beautiful visit, the museum turned out to be much larger than I expected. The collection is impressive, although I was left wanting to enter one of the rooms that was closed. A highly recommended visit.

A huge museum, with a great variety of works and sculptures on display and excellent explanations on all of them. A place where I could spend the whole day and not even realise it.
