If you want to calculate how much it might cost you to visit the Duomo in Florence, here is the information you need.
Visiting the Duomo in Florence is to see one of the most fabulous artistic spaces in the world, but it requires some prior information.
There are different types of tickets depending on the parts of the Duomo you want to see and, therefore, different prices. Here is a summary of everything so that you can choose the option that best suits your taste.
Types of tickets for the Duomo of Florence
There are several types of tickets to enter the Duomo of Florence, whether you buy them at the ticket office or through Helloticket.
The Duomo is divided into several parts: the cathedral itself, the Baptistery, Giotto's Bell Tower, Brunellesch's dome and the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo. Here are the different combinations for visiting one or more of these areas:
- Free entrance: you will only be able to enter the nave of the cathedral, but be prepared to queue for a long time and not be able to move too far from the area you are allowed to visit in this way. It does not require any kind of payment or prior reservation and you can visit it every day except Sundays and religious celebrations.
- Full ticket: this is the one you can get in person at the ticket office or on the official website of the Duomo of Florence, as well as on the Hellotickets website.
- Full ticket + guide: you can also get it in person and online (but it is not always available in English). It is also available on the Hellotickets website, so you will not have to queue.
- Full ticket without dome: also available in person at the ticket office or on the official website of the Duomo of Florence.
- Cathedral + Museum + Baptistery: only available in person at the ticket offices or on the official website of the Duomo of Florence.
- Cathedral + guide + dome: you can buy it through Hellotickets and it is also without queues.
On the other hand, all the tickets you buy in advance are skip-the-line tickets, which will save you a considerable loss of time.

How much do tickets cost at the ticket office?
One option for visiting the Duomo is to buy tickets directly from the ticket office or online at the complex's website. In the former case, be aware that this may not be a good idea, as queues can be up to an hour long and tickets are subject to availability. If, however, you choose this option, you will need to be at the official ticket office in Piazza del Duomo, 14/A.
If you prefer to buy tickets online you will find several options depending on which parts of the complex you want to visit. The recent change in the ticket format may make it difficult to purchase tickets online. Please note that you will need to indicate the date and time of your visit, although you will then have a further 3 days to complete your visit.
- Ghiberti Pass: includes the Museum, the Baptistery and the remains of Santa Reparata). The price is 15 €.
- Giotto Pass: you can visit all the monuments except the dome. It costs about 20 €.
- Brunelleschi Pass: this is the most complete pass, as it allows entry to all the monuments in the complex. Remember that to go up to the dome you will have to indicate the specific time slot in which you want to do it. The price is around 30 €.
On the other hand, the Duomo also offers visitors the possibility of guided tours, although there is not always the option of doing so in Spanish. Prices in this case also depend on the parts to be visited.
- Guided tour of the Cathedral (English or Italian): the entrance fee is about €13.
- Guided tour of the Baptistery and Museum (Italian or English): about €25.
How much do tickets to the Duomo of Florence cost without queuing and with dome access?
You can enter the cathedral without queues and go up to the fabulous Brunelleschi's Dome with an expert guide who will explain you in detail everything you are seeing from 60 € with Helloticket.
With the offer I propose you you will avoid those queues, with the saving of time and the comfort that it means. Another advantage is the presence of a guide specialised in art who will tell you everything you need to know about what you are seeing, such as Vasari's marvellous frescoes, to give just one example.
The climb to the dome included with this ticket is, in my opinion, a must for anyone visiting Florence. Apart from its own architectural value, it offers breathtaking panoramic views of the entire city.
What do these types of tickets usually include?
- Skip the line entrance to the cathedral
- Expert guide
- Entrance to Brunelleschi's dome
- Headphones
Why buy this ticket?
The best thing about choosing this ticket is the convenience of being able to enter without waiting in line. This convenience also increases when it comes to climbing the dome, as there are usually very long waits, especially if you are travelling to Florence in August or other summer, spring and early autumn months.
Another great aspect to consider when travelling is to have an expert guide. Their explanations can often make the difference in how much you enjoy and learn from your visit.
How much does a full ticket to the Duomo cost?
The most complete option to visit all the attractions of the Duomo costs around €91. This price includes a visit to the cathedral, the Baptistery, the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo, Giotto's Bell Tower and Brunelleschi's dome. As if this were not enough, you will be accompanied by an expert guide who will explain the tour.
The advantages of this combined ticket start even before entering the cathedral, as you will have the chance to walk around the Piazza del Duomo and listen to a series of explanations that will help you understand the history of the residential complex it houses.
Only the climb to the Dome, with its 463 steps, and to Giotto's bell tower are done without a guide, so you can enjoy the views offered by the first one at your own pace.
It is important to make a note of the time of the climb when making a reservation to go up the dome, as the crowds make it necessary to book in advance. For this reason, if you have booked at the last minute, it will not be possible to guarantee your ticket.
What do these tickets usually include?
- Expert guide so that you have information about what you see.
- Entrance to the Baptistery: this is a Romanesque building built between the 11th and 12th centuries. The highlights are the bronze gates on the outside, as well as the interior mosaics.
- Entrance to the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo: contains original sketches of the construction of the Duomo, as well as original sculptures of the replicas that can be seen inside the cathedral.
- Tour of the Cathedral.
- Entrance to the Dome: designed by Brunelleshi, this construction is impressive for its beauty and for the technical difficulty it represented at the time. Inside, the frescoes in Mannerist style are by Vasari.
- Giotto's Bell Tower was built in Gothic style between 1298 and 1359. Its name is due to the fact that Giotto was in charge of the marble covering.
Why buy this ticket?
The combined ticket is the perfect option not to miss any of the important corners of the whole Duomo complex. With the guide you will get a much clearer idea of the history of this area, as well as its artistic value.
How much does it cost to book a private, skip-the-line tour?
If you prefer not to go with a large group, you can book a private tour from €197. Although the price obviously increases, the advantages of spending 3 and a half hours getting to know the secrets of all the monuments that make up the Duomo complex are enough to make it worth it.
With this option, which guarantees you won't have to wait in line, you will start by discovering all the secrets of the statues that decorate the façade of the cathedral thanks to the explanations of your guide.
Then, once inside, you will get to know all its nooks and crannies, including the interesting Crypt of Santa Reparata, the remains of an ancient pre-cathedral church in which popes and artists such as Brunelleshi are buried.
Of course, you will also visit the Baptistery, the Dome and the Bell Tower. Finally, you will be able to enter the museum to see the works of art on display.
What do these types of tickets usually include?
- Tickets by reservation without queuing
- Private tour guide expert in art history
- Entrance to the Cathedral of Santa Maria delle Fiori
- Entrance to the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo
- Entrance to the Baptistery of San Giovanni
- Entrance to the Brunelleschi Dome
- Entrance to the Giotto's Bell Tower
Why buy this ticket?
If you are looking for a more direct, private and complete experience, this is the option for you. The tour is perfect for those who not only want to see the art located in this complex, but also want to fully understand it.
The fact that you don't have to wait in line, on the other hand, will save you a lot of time that you can dedicate to seeing some of the other wonders of the city.
Is there a combined ticket for the Duomo and other monuments?
Tickets that combine several monuments usually mean, in addition to greater convenience, a saving on the total cost. In this case, you will be able to visit, in addition to the Duomo, the Accademia Gallery, including Michelangelo's David.
You can do all this from 93 € in groups of no more than 12 people and without having to wait in line to enter the monuments.
With your expert guide you can walk through the nave of the cathedral and climb Brunelleschi's Dome. But the other parts of the Duomo (Giotto's bell tower, the Baptistery and the whole of the square) will be explained to you from the outside.
Why buy this ticket?
This combined ticket has several advantages, starting with the smaller number of people in the group. This means that the guide's explanations will be more personalised and, in addition, the visits are more comfortable.
Moreover, having the chance to see two of Florence's great attractions with a single reservation and without waiting in line is in itself a great time-saver, which you can spend exploring the streets of the city.
Can I visit the Duomo with a tourist card?
The Firenze Card no longer includes the Duomo in Florence, although it does include many other museums in the city. So you can no longer take advantage of its discounts to visit the monument.
Is it possible to visit the Duomo for free?
In principle, only the cathedral of Santa Maria dei Fiori can be visited for free. The rest of the monuments that make up the complex require the purchase of a ticket beforehand.
The only exception to this rule are:
- Children under 7 years of age
- Disabled persons (with proper documentation and subject to verification) and their carer.
Are there reduced rates to visit the Duomo?
The only people who can take advantage of a reduced price to enter the Duomo are children between 7 and 14 years old with:
- The Brunelleschi Pass, which will cost them around 12 €.
- The Giotto Pass, which is €7.
- And the Ghiberti Pass, which costs them around €5.
