Step by Step
Discover a lesser-known and deeply enchanting side of the Amalfi Coast with this private walking tour to the Valle delle Ferriere, starting directly from the heart of Amalfi, in front of St. Andrew's Cathedral. This medium-low difficulty tour is perfect for lovers of nature, history and tranquillity.
For about 5 hours, you will follow a path through ancient lemon groves until you enter one of the most amazing nature reserves in Europe, recognised by the Council of Europe as one of the 41 biogenetic reserves.
The Canneto river, with its crystal-clear waters, flows through the valley and maintains a subtropical microclimate unique in Europe, where rare plant species such as the prehistoric fern Woodwardia radicans and other exotic plants typical of tropical climates thrive.
During the tour, your guide will tell you about the history of the valley, which in medieval times was home to blacksmiths who forged nails for the ships of the Amalfi shipyards - the origin of the name "Valle delle Ferriere". In addition to historical remains, you will see local fauna such as salamanders, common toads, peregrine falcons and colourful woodpeckers.
The trail is circular (out and back), with a gentle slope of only 300 metres, which makes it accessible to people of average physical condition and without major technical risks. At the end of the walk, you will return comfortably to the starting point in Amalfi.
