Step by Step

The museum has both a permanent collection and temporary exhibitions, both of which can be visited with a ticket. It traces Vancouver's history, from indigenous peoples to the 1950s and beyond. A visit will give you the opportunity to discover its transformation from the settlement of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh peoples to the birth of today's metropolis.

The museum houses one of the largest collections of artefacts and sculptures made by the local indigenous people. It is housed in a futuristic structure designed by Canadian architect Gerald-Hamilton.

The museum is located at 1100 Chestnut Street, within walking distance of Vanier Park and downtown. To get there, you can choose from buses, False Creek ferries, biking or walking. Just cross the Burrard Street Bridge.

I had no idea that there were so many sub cultures in Vancouver, it's amazing to see how they influenced so much of the city's history.
